Campus Security Officer

Job Type: Full-Time
Location:Bradenton
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:00pm
Pay: $17 per hour

Special Requirement: 
  • Must have and maintain an active Florida Class "D" Security Officer License in accordance with applicable Florida regulations.

Job Summary

The Campus Security Officer is responsible for providing protection and security services to students, faculty, staff, visitors, and facilities throughout the campus and satellite locations. This position utilizes a variety of security methods and technologies, including foot and vehicle patrols, CCTV surveillance systems, alarm systems, access control systems, and key management.
Security Officers respond to emergencies, maintain awareness of criminal activity and safety hazards, enforce institutional policies and applicable laws, prepare detailed reports, and perform administrative and support duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining a safe and secure campus environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide a visible security presence and protection for students, employees, and visitors.
  • Conduct routine foot and vehicle patrols of campus and satellite facilities.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist local law enforcement officers as needed.
  • Monitor student, employee, and visitor activity throughout campus.
  • Enforce institutional policies regarding smoking, food and beverages, weapons, drugs, alcohol, and other safety requirements.
  • Enforce parking regulations and issue parking citations as appropriate.
  • Investigate and document non-criminal incidents occurring on campus.
  • Identify, observe, and report safety hazards.
  • Complete detailed incident reports and daily activity reports.
  • Maintain accurate incident logs and security documentation.
  • Monitor CCTV surveillance systems and respond appropriately to security concerns.
  • Monitor and control facility access through proximity card systems, locks, and key systems.
  • Monitor and respond to intrusion alarm systems.
  • Monitor and respond to automated fire alarm systems.
  • Control, issue, and receive operational keys used by employees.
  • Process found and abandoned property.
  • Conduct student and employee escorts upon request.
  • Receive and document incoming business calls after normal business hours.
  • Follow established procedures for sensitive deliveries when appropriate personnel are not on campus.
  • Perform administrative, investigative, and security support duties as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of work-related information and records.
  • Accept additional duties and responsibilities as needed to maintain a safe and secure campus environment.

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required.
  • Must have and maintain an active Florida Class "D" Security Officer License in accordance with applicable Florida regulations.
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other standard office applications.
  • Accurate data entry and documentation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and respond appropriately during emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently and follow established procedures and instructions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Professional appearance, demeanor, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, visitors, law enforcement, and other personnel.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Sit and operate security and computer equipment.
  • Use hands to handle tools, equipment, controls, and other objects.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Climb stairs.
  • Communicate effectively through speaking and hearing.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Visually identify and distinguish objects and potential safety or security concerns.
  • Work outdoors and in various weather conditions.
  • Work various rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather.

Work Environment

The Campus Security Officer will work both indoors in an office/security environment and outdoors throughout campus and satellite facilities. The position may also require interaction with visitors and personnel at community outreach locations. The work environment is generally low to moderate in noise level.
